Tintern Abbey lies on the River Wye, on the border between England and Wales. After Henry VII dissolved the monasteries in the 1536 and took the lead from the roof of Tintern, it gradually fell into ruins. The abbey was made famous by Victorian romantics, with poems written about it (by Wordsworth, for example) and paintings by JMW Turner and others.
